Cycle is a bi-monthly Hindi magazine for 9-12-year-old children. With it, a mundane everyday life becomes interesting, humorous, and engaging. Through stories, poems, letters, travelogues, and non-fiction articles on history, art, science, philosophy, it features the child’s world and his inquisitiveness. These writings accompany the beautiful hand-drawn picture spreads.

Us Roz: Maya Somu writes an anecdote about two young children who loved the whistle of the train, its chugh-chugh-chugh, and its promise to take us away to the future, until one day… The story is illustrated by Chinmayee Samant.

Pehchan ki Topi: A good satire is a rare find these days. This Tamil satire is written by S. Ramakrishnan and translated by Meenakshi Natrajan. It is a remarkable take on a society that prefers to follow someone. Allen Shaw has illustrated the story.

Chapplein: A story by Sonika Kaushik of a boy whose father bought him a pair of slippers. The story takes us to a time when buying stuff was not an everyday occurrence. We cherished for long whatever new gift we received. We didn’t use it for a long time because of the worry that we might spoil it. It is illustrated by Taposhi Ghoshal.

Anwar: A witty anecdote by Prabhat would make me laugh. Its illustrations are also quite well done by Rishi Sahany.

Aabad Ped: Krishna Kumar discusses Mahesh Katare Sugam’s poem, Chiraiyya, in this issue of Kavita Khidki.
